What’s Hot and How To Do It Series: Blog 1

What’s hot right now?  Nail art. There’s so much you can do with your nails by just being creative (and having the proper tools of course!). Well I am going to go over gradient nails and how to do them.

Gradient nails start with one color at the base of your nails, mix with another color in the middle and then becomes the other color at the tip for a unique fade effect. It can really be done with any colors you like.

STEP 1
Start with your base color and apply two coats of polish to the entire nail.

STEP 2
Take your tip color apply it to the top 1/3 of your nail only.

STEP 3
While the polish on your tips is still wet use a blending color on the top 1/2 of your nail to finish the look.

STEP 4
Repeat on your other hand.

So this is really simple technique and has a nice effect for something a little more fancy than just a plain nail.

Please leave me your comments and thanks for reading!  I will go over more nail techniques in the future so be sure to follow!

Makeup Secret

One makeup secret:  work with a smooth surface.
Use a primer to create a barrier between your skin and the makeup. It will help it last longer and go on a lot smoother. You can also use microdermabrasion at home or just moisturize your skin. This all helps when getting ready to apply makeup. For those not familiar, microdermabrasion removes dead skin cells from skin. Doing this simple step before applying your makeup will make it last so much longer and will go on so much better! I love this secret. Leave me your comments and feedback. Thanks!

Burt’s Bees Cocoa Lip Shimmer

Where’s cocoa?

Well I must say I’m very disappointed that Burt’s Bees has discontinued the Cocoa shade of their lip shimmer. That was absolutely the best color of the selection and I have no replacement.  What I loved about it:

-the color is a sheer brown but dark enough that its noticeable.  You can layer to make darker.
-it is a tinted lip moisturizer so it serves two purposes.
-so convenient! Just like Chapstick, it comes in a thin tube which rolls up and down.
-stays on for a fair amount of time without having to reapply.

I absolutely loved this lip shimmer and used it every day. As a server dealing with a lot of customers it was absolutely perfect to slip right into my apron and use throughout  the day. In the morning I would start with lipstick by loreal in solvers tone with a nude or carmel liner. I never have time to go to the bathroom and reapply this during my shift but I could count on my Burt’s Bees to do the trick. Giving me a little bit of color and plenty of moisture on my lips throughout the day. Appearance is very important and it just looks professional. I like to switch it up between champagne color for a lighter, nude looking lip and cocoa. However, since cocoa has been gone I have not been able to find anything that compares. I want something that’s in the same tube style which looks like a Chapstick with a similar color. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know.
