Makeup Secret

One makeup secret:  work with a smooth surface.
Use a primer to create a barrier between your skin and the makeup. It will help it last longer and go on a lot smoother. You can also use microdermabrasion at home or just moisturize your skin. This all helps when getting ready to apply makeup. For those not familiar, microdermabrasion removes dead skin cells from skin. Doing this simple step before applying your makeup will make it last so much longer and will go on so much better! I love this secret. Leave me your comments and feedback. Thanks!

Answer: Difference between drugstore makeup and high end makeup

Woot!  Woot!  Not too long ago I asked a question that was on my mind and I am now in the process of learning the answer. I will share what I have found so far so it is all documented and referred back to at anytime. My question is: what is the difference between drugstore and high end makeup?

ANSWER: High end makeup is less likely to irritate your skin and cause redness. Also, high end make up lasts longer due to their long wearing formulas. However, drugstores do carry long wearing options as well so I already know my next question right now.  Highend powders and eye shadows are of a finer blend so they are not chalky and look more natural.  It has to do with the milling process being used and because the powder will be finer it also sits,on the skin better and lasts longer.   What it boils down to is the types of ingredients used and the concentration of the ingredient.   Drugstore brands contain less SPF, lipids, and retinal. The concentration of pigments is more in high end makeup resulting in longer lasting and more vibrant colors.  Ok, this is a lot of good information.

Lets take a look at foundation. It is the silicone ingredient in the make up that makes it last longer.  There is a higher concentration of dimethicone in higher end foundation even if the products both boast to be long wearing. The expensive brand name foundation will last longer as dimethicone provides a smoother and longer wear.   On the other hand if we look at lip gloss or mascara, nearly the same formula is used for both types.   Cheap eyeshadow and blush contain less pigment.

So basically to sum it up, some items it’s ok to spend thrifty and others you may justify your splurge. Don’t feel guilty spending all that $ on your foundation or powder. It’s worth it and BTW you just saved a bunch on your lip gloss and mascara. BTW, YOU are worth it!
