Answer: Difference between drugstore makeup and high end makeup

Woot!  Woot!  Not too long ago I asked a question that was on my mind and I am now in the process of learning the answer. I will share what I have found so far so it is all documented and referred back to at anytime. My question is: what is the difference between drugstore and high end makeup?

ANSWER: High end makeup is less likely to irritate your skin and cause redness. Also, high end make up lasts longer due to their long wearing formulas. However, drugstores do carry long wearing options as well so I already know my next question right now.  Highend powders and eye shadows are of a finer blend so they are not chalky and look more natural.  It has to do with the milling process being used and because the powder will be finer it also sits,on the skin better and lasts longer.   What it boils down to is the types of ingredients used and the concentration of the ingredient.   Drugstore brands contain less SPF, lipids, and retinal. The concentration of pigments is more in high end makeup resulting in longer lasting and more vibrant colors.  Ok, this is a lot of good information.

Lets take a look at foundation. It is the silicone ingredient in the make up that makes it last longer.  There is a higher concentration of dimethicone in higher end foundation even if the products both boast to be long wearing. The expensive brand name foundation will last longer as dimethicone provides a smoother and longer wear.   On the other hand if we look at lip gloss or mascara, nearly the same formula is used for both types.   Cheap eyeshadow and blush contain less pigment.

So basically to sum it up, some items it’s ok to spend thrifty and others you may justify your splurge. Don’t feel guilty spending all that $ on your foundation or powder. It’s worth it and BTW you just saved a bunch on your lip gloss and mascara. BTW, YOU are worth it!

Thanks for reading and I will follow up soon.  Please let me know your thoughts and comments. As always, I would love to hear from you.

Skin tone

Ok so now we found out about the different types of blue eyes we also must look at tour skin tone. You may have a warm skin tone if your skin has yellow undertones. If your skin has pink undertones that is considered cool.  Warm skin tones looks better with warm colors and cool looks better with cool. So that’s pretty simple.  Warm colors on the color wheel are considered yellow, orange, red, light green. Once it gets to blue that’s considered cool. Blue, purple, and darker greens all fit the cool category.

Blue eye color

Blue eyes have different depths of blue to them and this will effect how to play them up.  First define the level of your natural color.

  1. Light Blue- this color can easily be overshadowed by a dark color.  If you love a darker color it is better to use it in your crease only or as a liner. Stick to medium softer colors for the rest of the eye.

  2.  Medium Blue- looks best with light to medium colors again, sticking with a darker color in the crease or as a liner.  Some great colors are deep violet, deep peach, bronze or light copper.  Go with a pink or a white as a hi lighting color.  Grays, silvers and blues also look good for these eye.

Same as with light blue, limit darker colors to the crease area of the eye.

  3. Dark Blue- this is an intense color like a sapphire blue.  You may use just about any color you’d like including darker colors.  Deep grays, or for a more summery look, copper or bronzes work well.  Silver looks amazing too.

Truly lucky, anything goes for these dark sapphire peepers.

  4. Gray-Blue-  this color tends to change depending on what you wear. It’s better to stick with lighter colors so as not to overpower these eyes.
